WWDC 2023Mac Pro finally gets Apple Silicon, Apple launches new Mac Studio and a bigger 15-inch MacBook Air

At WWDC 2023, Apple finally introduced the Mac Pro custom Apple chip. The company has also introduced a new MacBook Air 15 with M2 SoC.

By Abhik SenguptaApple announced a bunch of new PCs at WWDC 2023 on June 5. The company introduced a new MacBook Air with a 15-inch display. There are new Mac Studio and Mac Pro with M2-series chipsets. During the event, Apple said that with the new launches, Apple completed its transition from Intel-based processors to custom ARM-based Apple chipsets. The new Apple computers will also launch in India.

MacBook Air 15

Starting with the MacBook Air, the new laptop is similar to MacBook 13, but with a bigger 15-inch display. The laptop comes in four colours and features a MagSafe charger and a headphone jack. Apple has also upgraded the webcam to a Full-HD camera for better video calls.

At WWDC, Apple touted the MacBook Air 15 as the “lightest” 15-inch laptop. The company notes the new Air has “everything a user wants,” adding it is the “thinnest” 15-inch laptop. Other key features of the laptop include M2 Max SoC, which is 12 times faster than the Intel-based MacBook Air. Apple says that the new chip also enables the laptop to offer up to 18 hours of battery life.

The Apple MacBook Air 15 starts at $1,299, which is roughly Rs 1.07 lakh. The 15-inch MacBook Air with M2, available in midnight, starlight, silver, and space grey, starts at Rs 1,34,900 and INR 124900 for education.

Mac Studio

Last year, Apple introduced the Mac Studio, aimed at creators. The key feature of the studio is it includes “Ultra” Apple chips, more RAM, and an improved GPU. The new Mac Studio can be configured with M2 Max and a new M2 Ultra SoC. It includes up to 24 CPU-core, 76 GPU-core, and 32-core Neural Engine.

The new Studio also has higher-bandwidth HDMI, allowing up to six high-res displays to be daisy-chained to it. The Mac Studio starts at Rs 2,09,900 and Rs 1,88,900 for education. Additional configure-to-order options will be available at the Apple Store.

Mac Pro

Finally, Apple has also introduced a new Mac Pro with M2 Ultra SoC. It features the same cheesegrater-like design but with improved features. The new Mac Pro can have 192GB of unified memory. Apple is gearing this up for creators, with the power of seven Afterburner cards, eight Thunderbolt ports up front, as well as an array of video outputs too. In terms of design, it looks identical to the last Mac Pro.

Available in both tower and rack-mounted enclosures, Mac Pro (Tower Enclosure) starts at Rs 7,29,900 and Rs 6,87,900 for education. The Mac Pro (Rack Enclosure) starts at Rs 7,79,900 and Rs 7,27,900 for education. Additional technical specifications and configure-to-order options will be available at the Apple Store.
