After having won the toss, DC elected to bat first and lost early wickets before Lanning and Jemimah Rodrigues steadied the ship for them. However, the wickets of the duo triggered a major collapse and DC went from 81 for four to 105 all out before completing their quota of 20 overs.

MI made light work of the chase in the end and won the match by eight wickets to make it a hattrick of wins in the WPL 2023.

Speaking after the loss, as quoted by Cricinfo, Lanning said that they were in a similar position as MI in the 12-13 over mark. The DC captain took some blame for getting off to a slow start and failing to capitalize.

Lanning praised the MI bowlers for their performance and said there was something on the track for the bowling units on the day. The DC captain said it isn’t easy to go out looking to get to 180 from the start and it wasn’t their best day in the office.

Lanning said they failed to capitalize on the momentum provided by Rodrigues and is hoping for a turnaround in the next game.

“We were actually in a very similar position at the 12-13 over mark. I take a bit of the blame because I took a few balls at the start and then could not capitalise. Mumbai bowled excellently and that is the game – it does not go your way sometimes. There was certainly something in it for the bowlers, which is a good thing. It held a little more than the other tracks we have played on.”

“You can’t go out there and look at 180 right from the start. You get yourself into a bit of trouble if you do that. It was not our best day. We gave it a crack, lots to learn. Rodrigues swung the momentum our way but we just could not capitalise. Capsey bowled well too. Hopefully we can come back in the next game.”
