Mumbai Indians will qualify directly to the final if Delhi Capitals don’t win their final match against UP Warriorz later on Tuesday. Delhi hammered MI by 9 wickets in a top-of-the-table clash on Monday.

Mumbai Indians rode on a collective batting effort with all-rounder Amelia Kerr topping the batting charts with an unbeaten 31. Kerr stitched a 47-run stand with Pooja Vastrakar who chipped in with 19 runs after the table-toppers suffered a mid-overs wobble, losing Harmanpreet Kaur (2) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (13) in quick succession.

SOLID START

Earlier in the day, Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia gave Mumbai a solid opening stand of 53 runs in the powerplay. Mumbai lost Yastika in the final delivery of the powerplay in Shreyanka Patil’s over. Megan Schut finally the got the wicket of Hayley in the 8th over after the West Indies opener got a lifeline when Sophie Devine got her out while overstepping in the powerplay.

Mumbai lost 4 wickets for just 19 runs in the middle overs but the partnership between Kerr and Vastrakar got them past the finish line.

Earlier in the day, RCB rode on handy contributions from Smriti Mandhana (24), Ellyse Perry (29 off 38) to huff and puff to 125 for 9 in 20 overs. It was Richa Ghosh’s power-hitting (29 off 13 with 2 sixes and 3 boundaries) that helped them go past the 120-run mark.

Smriti Mandhana ended her season without a fifty as the RCB captain failed to deliver in the inaugural edition of the WPL.

Amelia Kerr shone with the ball too, picking up 3 wickets while Issy Wong picked up 2 wickets. Impressive Saika Ishque added to her tally with a wicket of Megan Schutt.
