Stefanos Tsitsipas had an almighty scare against Dominic Thiem after his Round 1 match went into a tie-break. But in the end, Tsitsipas held his nerve in the fifth set tie-break to win the match 3-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (10-8).

16-year-old Mirra Andreeva, who has taken rapid strides over the last six months, defeated China’s Wang Xiyu 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. Spain’s Paula Badosa defeated USA’s Alison Riske-Amritraj 6-3, 6-3 and made her way through to the second round of the women’s singles.

Daniil Medvedev, who crashed out in the first round of the French Open, was dominating after he defeated UK’s Arthur Ferry 7-5, 6-4, 6-3. Italy’s Jannik Sinner had a satisfactory day after he defeated Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman 7-5, 6-1, 6-2.

SAKKARI ELIMINATED

Russia’s Daria Kasatkina had an impressive outing against Jodie Anna Burrage after she won the match 6-0, 6-2 on Centre Court.
