The Italian was furious at his players after Tottenham played out a 3-3 draw with Southampton. Conte went on to an astonishing rant and called his players selfish. The draw led to Tottenham staying fourth in the table, only two points above Newcastle United, who have played two games fewer than Spurs.

Conte was appointed in November 2021 after the sacking of Nuno Espirito-Santo and his contract was due to expire in June.

Although Tottenham are still in contention for a top-four finish, the side was knocked out of the Champions League after losing to AC Milan in the last 16. Tottenham also crashed out of the FA Cup following a defeat against second-tier Sheffield United.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy in a statement said that the club and Conte parted ways by mutual agreement and thanked the Italian for his contributions. Tottenham also named Cristian Stellini as the acting head coach for the remainder of the season.

“We can announce that head coach Antonio Conte has left the club by mutual agreement. We achieved Champions League qualification in Antonio’s first season at the Club. We thank Antonio for his contribution and wish him well for the future,” said Levy.

“Cristian Stellini will take the team as acting head coach for the remainder of the season, along with Ryan Mason as assistant head coach.

“We have 10 Premier League games remaining and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place. We all need to pull together. Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our Club and amazing, loyal supporters.”
