Top 10 largest-selling cars in FY23WagonR, Baleno at top; Nexon beats Creta, Brezza to emerge numero uno SUV


WagonR, Baleno, Alto, Swift, Nexon, Dzire, Creta, Brezza, Punch and Eeco were the top 10 largest-selling cars in India in FY23.

FY23 was a record breaking fiscal for many OEMs.

By India Today Auto DeskFor the passenger vehicle (PV) segment, FY23 was a record-breaking year with the best-ever fiscal volumes at 3,889,545 units. The previous best of 3,377,436 units came in FY19. In FY23, Maruti Suzuki India had seven models among the 10 largest-selling cars in India, Tata Motors had two and Hyundai Motor India had one. While the WagonR was the best-selling overall car during the fiscal, the Nexon was the top-selling SUV.

WagonR keeps the crown

The Maruti Suzuki WagonR retained its crown as the largest-selling car in India clocking volumes of 2.12 lakh units in the domestic market in FY23. It was the best-seller in FY22 as well at 1.89 lakh units.

Baleno, Swift, Alto follow

At the second position was the Maruti Suzuki Baleno registering sales of 2.03 lakh units and cementing its position as the most favourite premium hatchback in India. Then came the Maruti Suzuki Alto (800 + K10) garnering sales of 1.80 lakh units. The Alto 800 has now been discontinued. The Maruti Suzuki Swift was the next in line at 1.77 lakh units.

Nexon is ahead of other SUVs

Beating the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Tata Punch, the Tata Nexon emerged as the largest-selling SUV in FY23 at 1.72 lakh units. Behind Tata’s most popular model was the Maruti Suzuki Dzire recording sales of 1.50 lakh units.

Creta, Brezza, Punch in line

Although the Hyundai Creta was behind the Tata Nexon in SUV sales, it was the largest-selling mid-size SUV in India at 1.50 lakh units in FY23. It was followed by another Maruti model, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, at 1.46 lakh units. Next was the Tata Punch with sales of 1.34 lakh units.

Eeco keeps the van flag high

The Maruti Suzuki Eeco has been the long-time van segment leader and it never fails to disappoint. In FY23, it clocked handsome volumes in the domestic market at 1.31 lakh units.
