Tottenham forward Son Heung-min has sent a heartfelt parting message to Antonio Conte, who left the club this week, saying he should have shown more but couldn’t. Conte helped Tottenham finish in the top-4 of the Premier League last season and was let go after an outburst against the club and its players.

Speaking after South Korea’s 2-1 loss against Uruguay, Son said he is very sorry that Conte was let go by Tottenham, while calling him a world-class manager.

“I’m very sorry to him. He is a world-class manager. We had a great journey together. I thank him a lot. I do not know how other players are thinking about him, but I’m sorry to him,” said Son.

The 30-year-old said he should have done more for Tottenham but could not help the help and feels responsible for Conte leaving the club.

“I should have shown more but I couldn’t. I couldn’t help the team and I feel responsible as he left the club. He surely has great ability and experience as a coach and I’m sure he’ll have great success in his other career,” Son added.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy in a statement said that the club and Conte parted ways by mutual agreement and thanked the Italian for his contributions. Tottenham also named Cristian Stellini as the acting head coach for the remainder of the season.

“We can announce that head coach Antonio Conte has left the club by mutual agreement. We achieved Champions League qualification in Antonio’s first season at the Club. We thank Antonio for his contribution and wish him well for the future,” said Levy.

Even though Tottenham are still in the race to finish in the top-four, the side was knocked out of the Champions League after losing to AC Milan in the last-16 stage. Tottenham also crashed out of the FA Cup following a defeat against second-tier Sheffield United.
