Sixth-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class makes global debut, India launch next year


The latest generation of the brand’s executive sedan has been revealed with a fresh design, more tech than before and enhanced comfort.

By Auto TodayMercedes-Benz has revealed the latest iteration of the E-Class. Now in its sixth-gen, the E-Class is bigger, has more refined powertrains and borrows a lot of design and tech from the S-Class. The sedan will go on sale internationally in the coming months, with India launch next year.

The new E-Class gets a reworked front, with new sculpted headlamps and an optional illuminated grille.

2024 Mercedes-Benz E-ClassDesign

Design-wise, the new 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class blends in the family look, similar to the larger S-Class. The headlamps now come with a larger and more sculpted and blend in with the large grille. The LED DRLs feature an upper strip and two lower crescents below the twin-LED headlamps. The grille itself is larger and comes with an optional illuminated surround. The brand offers a bunch of different style packages, including the sporty AMG line.

The rear is more S-Class inspired and comes with new LED taillamps which mimic the Mercedes-Benz logo.

The E-Class is now longer and has a longer wheelbase.

The E-Class sits on the brand’s Modular Rear Architecture. The wheelbase has been extended by 22mm, freeing up more space for the rear occupants. These images are of the standard-wheelbase E-Class. The India-spec long-wheelbase variant will be revealed at a later date. The sedan comes with standard steel spring suspension which has been improved for further comfort, but the top-spec variants will be offered with the AirMatic air suspension.

The new E-Class gets updated powertrain options.

The brand has overhauled the powertrains with the addition of mild-hybrid system. The car will carry forward the four-cylinder petrol and diesel and the six-cylinder petrol and diesel motors. The plug-in hybrid models now come with an electric only range of 115km (WLTP) with the help of a larger battery pack.

The E-Class now comes with optional MBUX Hyperscreen.

The cabin of the new E-Class has been reworked, with a new 12.3-inch instrument display and 14.4-inch portrait-style infotainment display. The comfort of the seats has been improved and so has been the quality of the materials used in the cabin. Customers can also opt for the three-display MBUX Hyperscreen setup as found in the EQS.

India is expected to get the new E-Class next year. However unlike the E-Class for Europe and other markets, India gets the longer-wheelbase variant along with China.
