By Medha ChawlaSara Ali Khan made her Cannes red carpet debut in a traditional lehenga at the opening ceremony of the highly-anticipated film festival on May 16. Paying a sartorial tribute to the Indian roots and culture, the actress glittered in a hand-embroidered heavy lehenga from the designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla’s label.

Sara embodied a modern-Indian bride as she slipped into the ethereal beige-hued lehenga enlivened with heavy embroidery and sparkling embellishments. She let her heavy outfit make all the noise and went subtle with the makeup. She simply accentuated her look with nude lips, a hint of blush and subtle eye makeup. The diva tied her hair in a bun and attached her dupatta to the hairdo, and let it flow like a veil.

Interestingly, this is not the first time a Bollywood diva has worn a lehenga to the Cannes film festival. Sonam Kapoor, in 2018, took over the Cannes red carpet in a dreamy ivory lehenga by Ralph & Russo. Vidya Balan has also sported lehenga-choli at the Cannes Film Festival in the past.

Ahead of Sara’s Cannes red carpet debut, designer Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla also took to their Instagram stories to share a glimpse of the diva’s ethereal ensemble.

On the work front, Sara is gearing up for the release of Zara Hatke Zara Bachke. The film, also starring Vicky Kaushal in the lead role, is slated to release on June 2. As for the Cannes Film Festival 2023, it will witness an array of Indian celebrities walking the red carpet. Manushi Chhillar, Sunny Leone, Vijay Varma and Mrunal Thakur will mark their presence. Apart from Sara Ali Khan, Esha Gupta also marked her Cannes debut at the opening ceremony held on May 16. In contrast to Sara’s desi red carpet look, Esha sizzled in a sultry thigh-slit gown.
