The Unpacked event will take place at COEX in Samseong-dong, Gangnam, an intersection where Teheran-ro and Bongeunsa, a millennial Buddhist temple, converge. The company notes this unique location offers the world an opportunity to experience the captivating blend of past, present and future that defines Seoul.

In a release, TM Roh, president and head of mobile experience (MX) business at Samsung Electronics, said, “Hosting Unpacked in Seoul holds great significance both as it is a city that has become an emerging epicentre of innovation and culture as well as the foldable category.”

Over the years, Samsung has organised Galaxy Unpacked across various cities. Starting with the first Unpacked in March 2010 in Las Vegas, Samsung has held Unpacked in key cities, including New York, London, Berlin and Barcelona. Interestingly, foldables are equally popular in South Korea, Samsung’s home country. In 2022, the Korean market also led the way with a remarkable 13.6 per cent foldable phone adoption rate, boasting the highest share of foldable phones in annual smartphone shipments.

Samsung has not shared details about the upcoming devices, though the company states the next generation of its foldable series will offer an “enhanced” experience based on years of research and development and investment. It was reported last month that Samsung may launch the next-gen Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 early this year, as more players are entering the folding smartphone market. Recently, Google launched its Pixel Fold in select markets. Earlier this year, Tecno was another player entering the segment with the most affordable folding smartphone. Its Phantom V Fold launched in India for Rs 88,888.

On the other hand, OnePlus is also expected to launch its first folding phone in India and globally next month. Motorola has launched the Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra globally. The company has revealed plans to launch the Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra in India soon. It could debut next as well, since the company already launched its Edge 40 in the country a few weeks ago.
