By India Today Sports DeskSachin Tendulkar was proud of Arjun Tendulkar after the latter made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut on Sunday, April 16. The 23-year-old Arjun played for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in their match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Arjun opened the bowling for the Mumbai-based franchise and finished with figures of 2-0-17-0. He started well by conceding only seven runs off his first 10 balls, but Venkatesh Iyer hit him for a four, followed by a six in his second over.

Arjun and Sachin also became the first father and son duo to take part in the IPL. After the match, Tendulkar gave his son some words of wisdom.

Sachin took to Instagram and wrote, “Arjun, today you have taken another important step in your journey as a cricketer. As your father, someone who loves you and is passionate about the game, I know you will continue to give the game the respect it deserves and the game will love you back. You have worked very hard to reach here, and I am sure you will continue to do so. This is the start of a beautiful journey. All the best!”

Sara Tendulkar, Arjun’s brother, reacted to Sachin’s post with a heart emoticon. Sara was present at the venue in Mumbai when her brother made his IPL debut. Sara was seen clapping for Arjun from the stands. England women’s cricketer Danni Wyatt was also “proud” of Arjun. Wyatt has posted for Arjun quite a few times on her social media handles.

Former Indian batter Suresh Raina, who is among the leading run-scorers in the history of the IPL, also congratulated Arjun Tendulkar. It also happened to a special ESA (Education & Sports For All) for the MI franchise.
