By India Today Business DeskReliance Industries Limited (RIL) is set to disrupt the domestic market by offering high-performance diesel at a lower price than fuel sold by state-owned retailers.
Jio-bp, the retail joint venture of Reliance and bp, is set to sell diesel mixed with detergents and dispersants which will be 1 rupee cheaper per litre than diesel sold by state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) such as Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).
Jio-bp said in a statement that its newly launched diesel will “elevate standards for Indian consumers”.
High-performance diesel to benefit truckers
The launch of the new high-performance diesel is likely to benefit truckers massively. The company claimed it will lead to annual savings of up to Rs 1.1 lakh per vehicle for truckers.
“The newly launched additivised diesel, available across the company’s network will yield annual savings of up to Rs 1.1 lakh* per vehicle to truckers owing to (upto) 4.3 per cent * improved fuel economy,” the company said in a press release.
“This new high-performance diesel offering will be available at all Jio-bp outlets and will be offered at regular prices with no additional cost for the first time ever in the Indian market,” it added.
It may be noted that diesel is the main fuel used by truckers in India’s transport sector and accounts for about two-fifths of the country’s overall refined fuel consumption.
Jio-bp CEO, Harish C Mehta, said, “While every single customer is important, truckers have always held a special place for Jio-bp. Accounting for over half of the truckers’ operating costs, we understand the critical impact of fuel on their overall business performance.”
The launch of the high-performance diesel will not only benefit truckers but also millions of consumers who own private diesel vehicles – both in terms of cost and fuel efficiency.
