Kohli, one of the fittest and most inspiring figures in modern cricket, is still going strong at the age of 34, and after a 6-week break from cricket in August 2022, he has returned to his usual form. The star batter has smashed five centuries across formats since his comeback in the Asia Cup, becoming the second-highest century-scorer in international cricket (75), trailing only Sachin Tendulkar (100). Kohli will hope to continue his form in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and end his 15-year title drought.

Kohli, who made his IPL debut against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2008, has become the all-time leading run-getter in the history of the T20 league. The ex-RCB captain has amassed 6,624 runs in 223 IPL matches, with five hundred and 44 half-centuries. Despite his stunning numbers with the bat, the star batter is yet to win his first IPL title.

Kohli recently opened up in a chat with RCB after regaining his form, saying that he is back to playing the way he used to but that there is still some improvement needed to get back to his best, which he hopes will happen in the IPL 2023.

“It was just about rediscovering the love for the game. That could happen when I stepped away from what was happening on the field for so long. I was trying to find ways when I was exhausted. I needed to connect myself as a human first, not judge myself constantly or keep myself under scrutiny all the time. Staying away from the game helped me. That helped me rediscover my excitement and love for the game. When I came back, everything was an opportunity, nothing was pressure,” Kohli said in a video shared by RCB.

RCB will continue to pursue their first IPL trophy. They have been impressive over the last three seasons, making the playoffs each time. Faf du Plessis will once again captain the side, which also includes Kohli, Maxwell, Mohammed Siraj, and Wanindu Hasaranga. However, Rajat Patidar and Josh Hazlewood’s participation is being questioned.
