As of Friday, retail prices of petrol and diesel have increased in some cities across Uttar Pradesh. Price data released by OMCs indicated that petrol price has gone up by 13 paise in Gautam Buddha Nagar to Rs 96.92 per litre; diesel has also become costlier by 12 paise at Rs 90.08 per litre.

In Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow, petrol now costs Rs 96.57 per litre after a 24 paise rise. On the other hand, diesel price has also increased by 23 paise to Rs 89.76 per litre.

Petrol and diesel prices have been steady for almost a year, with no major changes announced by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).

It may be noted that public sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) such as Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), India Oil Corporation (IOCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) revise fuel prices daily in accordance with international benchmarks and foreign exchange rates.

Price changes in petrol and diesel, if any, are implemented by OMCs from 6 am every day. With global oil prices falling, OMCs have a window to bring down fuel prices.

While oil prices gained some momentum on Friday, uncertainties related to the US debt ceiling and fears a possibility of a slowdown in the US economy have capped gains.
