The report, conducted by leading job portal Indeed, found that 70 per cent of Indian job seekers value work arrangements such as the ability to work from home, set their own hours, and take breaks as necessary. This preference for flexible work modes, including hybrid and remote work arrangements, is a key factor in evaluating job opportunities.

Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales at Indeed India, emphasized the importance of recognizing the evolving nature of work. “It is imperative that we see the future of work as a journey and not as a destination,” he said. “Streamlining processes, building aspirations, and empathetic consideration can really empower job seekers and unlock a diverse pool of talent. Employers who want to attract and retain top talent need to be aware of these preferences and be willing to adapt.”

The survey included a total of 1,810 individuals, comprising 561 employers and 1,249 job seekers. The findings demonstrated that 69 per cent of Indian job seekers consider the proximity of the job location to their home or current workplace. Additionally, 67 percent of job seekers take into account the compensation offered, including salary, benefits, health insurance, family leave policies, and learning and development programs associated with the job.

The report also indicated that 63 per cent of job seekers prefer a hybrid work setting, where they have the flexibility to work from home on certain days and from the office on others. Furthermore, the survey revealed that job seekers often desire more transparency and clarity during the application and interview process. Approximately 48 per cent of job seekers expressed a desire to know the salary range before applying for a role. However, only 15 percent reported hearing back from recruiters within 10-15 business days, with 63 per cent waiting longer for a response.

Overall, the report sheds light on Indian job seekers’ strong preference for work flexibility and their consideration of job location proximity, compensation, and work arrangements. It also highlights the need for greater transparency and efficiency in the recruitment process. Employers who understand and adapt to these preferences are more likely to attract and retain top talent.
