By Sneha SahaOnePlus entered the smart TV market in 2019 and in just 4 years the brand has built a stronghold in the segment. Similar to its smartphones, the company offers smart TVs at various price points in India. There is the Y-series that targets budget-centric consumers and then there is the U-series, which offers top-notch specifications at a mid-range price segment. And then comes the Q-series, which is for premium consumers who are looking for a premium experience and are ready to pay a premium price for it. The latest offering from OnePlus is the Q2 Pro 65-inch Android smart TV that not just offers a premium design, vibrant QLED panel, and smooth experience but is also the most expensive smart TV that the company has ever launched in India.

The OnePlus TV Q2 Pro 65-inch comes at a price of Rs 99,999. To be honest, the price segment that OnePlus is targeting with the Q2 Pro is a tricky one because it needs to compete with more established TV brands like Sony, Samsung, and LG. These companies have been in the TV business for decades, and there’s a reliability factor attached to them. But I personally believe that OnePlus is making an effort and going out of its way to ace the smart TV business as well. The OnePlus TV Q2 Pro 65-inch is a result of that effort.

OnePlus TV Q2 Pro 65-inch display, sound

I have been using the OnePlus TV Q2 Pro 65-inch for over a month now, and when I unboxed the TV I was mesmerized by the gorgeous display it offers. The 65-inch panel of the QLED variety offers a 120Hz variable refresh rate, peak brightness of up to 1200 nits, 120 local dimming zones, MEMC, and support for standards like HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and HLG.

From the time I got the OnePlus TV Q2 Pro installed in my living room, it is so massive (65-inch, of course) I never liked watching movies on my tablet or laptop. This has made me a fan of large screens, which I wasn’t earlier. The QLED panel shows vibrant and sharp visuals, and if you watch 4K videos, it is going to blow your mind. OnePlus also provides various options for tweaking the display to your liking, but I mostly watched content in its default setting, which is 50 per cent. To tweak the display settings, you will need to head to the Settings menu, wherein you can adjust the brightness, backlight, hue, contrast, saturation, sharpness, and more.

I watched many shows and movies across different platforms – Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, SonyLIV, YouTube, Disney+ Hotstar, among many others, and the TV worked seamlessly with every platform. The visual experience seems gorgeous also because the picture quality synced well with the sound the TV delivered, thanks to the 70W sound system. The OnePlus TV Q2 Pro’s soundbar includes front-facing speakers, and side-facing tweeters, while the subwoofer is placed on the back.

OnePlus says that the 70W 2.1 sound system is powered by Dolby Atmos and co-tuned by Dynaudio. Keeping aside the technical language, to simplify it for you, the OnePlus TV Q2 Pro offers stellar audio output, which not just gets loud but is also quite sharp and clear. The stealer sound with the gorgeous display makes for a great package. The new OnePlus TV is going to make your movie nights more memorable than ever before. Interestingly, the OnePlus TV Q2 Pro can be used as a standalone Bluetooth audio system by pairing it with your smartphone to play your favorite music.

So, whether you are watching a movie or a YouTube video, the OnePlus TV Q2 Pro 65-inch will never disappoint you.

OnePlus TV Q2 Pro 65-inch design, setup, remote

I have used budget OnePlus TVs earlier and, in my opinion, the company offers a pretty sleek and sturdy design even at aggressive pricing. So, I expected a smart TV at Rs 1 lakh to offer a fantastic design and build, and OnePlus TV Q2 Pro definitely lives up to my expectations. The build quality of the OnePlus TV is also top-notch and feels solid. Whether it is the sides or the back panel, none of it looks cheap.

It is a massive TV but doesn’t seem bulky at all. It offers a very well-balanced design with thin frames and extremely slim bezels all around, with an integrated soundbar right below the screen and a sleek metal stand. The soundbar includes the OnePlus logo on the right side, which adds to the overall design of the TV. All of that together, makes the OnePlus TV Q2 Pro 65-inch, an extremely good-looking smart TV that goes with the interior of the house.

The OnePlus TV Q2 Pro 65-inch includes ports on the sides. There are all the required ports and three HDMI 2.1 slots, a pair of USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, Composite, Optical Audio out, and a tuner. Other connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.0, and dual-band Wi-Fi along with Chromecast, DLNA, and Miracast for casting. It is quite easy to mirror the phone onto the TV.

Since it is a big TV, I couldn’t set it up by myself. However, it wasn’t a complicated process to install the OnePlus TV. It comes with a stand, with which you can set it on a table. However, if you wish to have the TV placed on the wall, you will need to spend extra to buy the wall mounting. Once the TV is installed, you can simply log in to your WiFi network and start using it. The remote comes bundled with the TV and is extremely easy to use.

The bundled remote is standard and compact. It includes a 4-way navigation button, a center select button, and keys for power, back, home, settings, volume adjustment, and Google Assistant. The remote also includes dedicated shortcut keys for YouTube, Disney+ Hotstar, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video, which surely makes it easy to switch from one app to another at just a click. While all of it is good, I miss the mute button on the remote. So, every time I wanted to mute the TV to pick up a call, I long pressed the volume key, which was quite a hassle.

OnePlus TV Q2 Pro 65-inch performance, software

OnePlus TV Q2 Pro is powered by the flagship-level MediaTek 9617 SoC, which is currently said to be the highest-performance 4K chipset available out there. The smart TV comes coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. During my usage, the OnePlus TV worked seamlessly for me. However, the smart TV took to turn on every time. But, I believe this can be fixed through a software update in the future.

The OnePlus TV runs the new Google TV interface based on Android 11, which is even more refined and is a more intuitive version of Google’s Android TV UI. The UI intelligently curates content as per user preference from various streaming platforms. What is even more interesting is that the UI also categorizes content as per its categories, such as films and TV shows. There’s the For You tab that curates and suggests content as per the user’s viewing history.

In addition, just like any other OnePlus TV in India, this Q2 Pro 65-inch comes with OxygenPlay 2.0, which can be switched to with the OnePlus logo button on the remote. In addition to access to OTT platforms like Netflix, Hotstar, Amazon Prime, and more, OxygenPlay 2.0 offers access to various local content and 270+ live channels and all of it complements well with Google TV.

OnePlus TV Q2 Pro 65-inch reviewShould you buy?

To get it right off the bat, the OnePlus TV Q2 Pro 65-inch is an expensive smart Android television and is for consumers who can afford to pay Rs 1 lakh for a TV. I believe that OnePlus could have been slightly more modest with the price, taking into consideration the Indian price-centric mindset. But, it is also true that the brand has gone all out with its offerings for the OnePlus TV Q2 Pro 65-inch.

The key highlights of this OnePlus TV are its display, performance, and also its minimalist user interface. The 65-inch QLED panel offers vibrant and sharp visuals packed in a beautifully designed package. The smart TV offers a sleek and premium look and also feels sturdy. The soundbar, placed at the bottom of the screen, also gets quite loud and delivers clear and crisp audio quality. I also liked the minimalist design of the OnePlus TV remote as it allows one to switch from one platform to another in just one click. Overall, a OnePlus TV Q2 Pro 65-inch offers everything one wants from a smart TV but at a really premium price point.
