In Short

  • The OnePlus 12 may include a 5,000mAh battery with 150W fast charging.
  • This is not the fastest charging tech OnePlus is adopting.
  • The OnePlus 12 may also a new 50-megapixel IMX9xx primary camera sensor.

By Abhik SenguptaOnePlus is seemingly planning to skip a “Pro” version of the OnePlus 11 5G, which launched earlier this year. Instead, we may directly get the OnePlus 12 in the coming months. According to SmartPrix with leakster OnLeaks, the new OnePlus 12 may look similar to the existing OnePlus with the round rear camera module. But one significant change would be the addition of periscope-style cameras, which were highly popular on Huawei and Samsung phones.

Periscope cameras on smartphones can offer several advantages over traditional optical zoom cameras. Firstly, we get improved zooming capabilities compared to traditional optical zoom cameras. The periscope-style camera can also provide a better optical zoom range than a smartphone with a standard 2X telephoto camera.

The report further adds that the OnePlus 12 would draw power from Qualcomm’s yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The new chipset may also introduce the Adreno 750 GPU for better gaming and graphics. Another big update we can expect is in the battery. The phone will likely include a 5,000mAh battery with 150W fast charging. This is not the fastest charging tech OnePlus is adopting, as its existing OnePlus 10R offers similar charging speeds. However, the phone will also support 50W wireless charging — a rare feat in non-Pro OnePlus phones.

The report adds that the OnePlus 12 may include a new 50-megapixel IMX9xx primary camera sensor. This could be a 1-inch camera sensor Sony may launch soon — a successor to the Sony IMX989, which features on Xiaomi 13 Pro. The primary camera could be paired with a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 64-megapixel periscope camera.

Other expected features may include Android 14, LPDDR5x RAM, UFS 4.0 storage, a 6.7-inch QHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and an alert slide to switch between audio modes.

The report does not highlight anything about the price, though we can expect it to cost over Rs 50,000. The OnePlus 11 launched with a starting price of Rs 56,999. The Pro models generally go over Rs 60,000.

The launch date also remains unclear, though we can expect it to happen in late 2023 since OnePlus is also geared up to launch its first-ever OnePlus V Fold (or OnePlus Open) folding smartphone by August-September. Naturally, the company would want to keep the hype around the folding phone for a couple of months. We can expect the OnePlus 12 to launch by December or January.
