While Okinawa launched India’s maiden high-speed electric scooter, the Ridge, in 2017, it now offers lithium-ion high-speed two-wheelers like Okhi-90, IPraise+, Praisepro, Dual 100, Ridge 100 and Ridge+. Among its lithium-ion slow-speed two-wheelers are R30 and Lite.

Although it did not give a concrete timeline, Okinawa claimed that it would soon unveil its first electric cruiser motorcycle. The company is also planning to launch more new models in 2023. However, it did not share further details.

“We are truly overwhelmed and would like to thank our customers and other stakeholders for believing in us and firming Okinawa’s position in the market as a leading electric two-wheeler brand in the country. The 250,000 units milestone is a strong testament to the quality of our robust product portfolio and a representation of our unwavering commitment to achieving a sustainable future and meeting the demand of our customers,” said Jeetender Sharma, MD and founder, Okinawa Autotech.

“With a strong pipeline of new products planned to be launched in India very soon, we aim to achieve the one million sales milestone by 2025,” he added.

The company is also planning to expand its 3S (sales, service and spare parts) touchpoints to more than 1,000 across the country by 2025 from the current 542 touchpoints.

Okinawa inaugurated its first research and development (R&D) centre in Italy, Europe, in association with its joint venture (JV) partner Tacita, earlier this year. Its cruiser motorcycle is being designed here only.

The R&D centre will see an investment of nearly Rs 222 crore (25 million euros) over the next three years. It will be headed by Tacita co-founder Pierpaolo Rigo and will operate in collaboration with Okinawa’s local R&D team in India.

Okinawa is reportedly among the 12 companies which are being probed for alleged misappropriation of subsidies under the Rs 10,000 crore FAME II scheme.

The other 11 companies are Hero Electric, Benling India, Okaya EV, Jitendra New EV Tech, Greaves Electric Mobility (formerly Ampere Vehicles), Revolt Intellicorp, Kinetic Green Energy, Avon Cycles, Lohia Auto Industries, Thukral Electric Bikes and Victory Electric Vehicles International.
