By Abhik SenguptaNokia brand licensee HMD Global has launched a new smartphone in India, dubbed Nokia C22, for entry-level users. The phone is priced at Rs 7,999 for the base variant (2GB RAM and 64GB storage) and goes up to Rs 8,499 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB option. Due to its modest specifications, the Nokia C22 ships with Android 13 Go edition out-of-the-box. The Go edition of Android is a toned-down variant of the regular Android OS. Phone manufacturers opt for this light Android OS version so that smartphone still runs smoothly without any prominent lags.

Other specifications of the Nokia C22 include a 6.5-inch HD+ (720×1,600 pixels) LCD display with a 20:9 aspect ratio and a standard 60Hz refresh rate. One of the attractive features is the camera setup. There are two sensors on the rear panel — a 13-megapixel sensor and a 2-megapixel sensor, alongside an LED flash. Although users are advised to not have high hopes for the secondary rear camera, which typically offers substandard performance. The front panel includes an 8-megapixel sensor inside the waterdrop notch at the top. The waterdrop style is again a standard across many budget devices, though Motorola introduced a hole-punch display on an entry-level phone last year.

Other key features include an unspecified battery unit with 10W charging support, a fingerprint sensor on the back panel, and dual-nano-SIM card slots. There’s no 5G, which is still not available on smartphones in this range. Nokia is also promising three-day battery life on the Nokia C22.

As mentioned, there’s Android 13 Go Edition, and some apps may not run on this system. Additionally, Lite versions of select popular apps, like Facebook, might be pre-installed. Nokia C22 may include Google Gallery instead of Google Photos. It means you do not have access to fancy editing tools. The Google Photos app is available to download on Google Play.

The Nokia C22 is not the only phone in the segment with the Android 13 Go edition and an affordable price tag. Recently, Motorola launched the Moto E13 for Rs 6,999 (2GB RAM and 64GB storage) and goes up to Rs 7,999 for the 4GB RAM variant. It also features modest specifications, including a 6.5-inch IPS LCD display, an octa-core Unisic T606 chipset, a single 13-megapixel camera, and a 5,000mAh battery with 10W charging.

The Nokia C22 goes on sale today via official Nokia India channels and partner retailers. It comes in Charcoal, Purple, and Sand colour options.
