Met Gala 2023Isha Ambani, Naomi Campbell wow in saree-inspired gowns

Celebrities from across the world turned in their glamorous best and paid their sartorial tributes to Karl Lagerfeld, the designer on whom the Met Gala 2023 was themed. We saw a bevy of black and white gowns, a combo the late fashion designer had a strong penchant for. Several celebrities went the extra mile and dressed up as Karl’s famous cat, Choupette. Yup, we are talking about Jared Leto and Doja Cat.

Amid the pool of monochrome gowns and some iconic Chanel pieces, the Met Gala also witnessed a whiff of saree magic this year. Isha Ambani, daughter of Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani, dazzled in a starry black saree gown by designer Prabal Gurung at the fashion’s biggest night.

The diva embraced her traditional roots with an amalgam of Western glam in this elegant creation featuring pearl and crystal embellishments. She turned heads in a glamorous crepe outfit which was hand-embellished with thousands of crystals and pearls, and adorned with a silk chiffon train.

But that’s not all! Supermodel Naomi Campbell also embraced a hint of desi glam in a rare saree-gown appearance at Met Gala 2023. She wore an archival look from Chanel’s 2010 couture collection that was inspired by the saree. The soft pink drape was draper over an ornate silver blouse. The diva completed her look with statement arm cuffs and matching earrings, soft makeup and poker-straight hair.
