Men using ChatGPT-like AI tools to sound witty, land better dates on Bumble and Hinge

A new study has found that men are making use of the ChatGPT-like AI tools to land better dates. They are taking help from ChatgGPT to write impressive bios, use better pick-up lines and more to get better dates on Bumble, Hinge and other popular dating apps. As a dating app user, you are naturally more attracted towards someone who has a well-written bio, someone who is a lot of clarity of thoughts and that is exactly what men are using ChatGPT for.

Researchers from Attractiontruth, an AI dating coach, conducted a survey with 1,371 men who have different sexual preferences. They wanted to know if these men were using AI technology to improve their dating profiles. The most popular dating app among the participants was Tinder, followed by Bumble and Hinge.

The survey revealed that 20% of the respondents (approximately 274 men aged 25 to 35) were using AI tools, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, to generate bios for their dating profiles and create personalized messages that appealed to their preferred matches. Among those who used AI, 37% reported feeling more confident when interacting with the opposite sex, and 24% noticed improvements in their messaging skills.

Salvatore Damiata, the co-founder of Attractiontruth, mentioned that utilizing AI to initiate and manage conversations on dating apps could lead to more positive outcomes and improved interaction quality.

One of the survey participants, named Am, asked the GPT-4 version of ChatGPT to create a funny and concise dating app bio for Bumble. Am wanted the bio to reflect his Italian background, include references to food, and have a clear call to action for someone interested in connecting and dating rather than just chatting endlessly. The AI chatbot came up with a short bio that incorporated phrases like “Trust me, my pasta game is strong!” and included Italian flag and red wine emojis in each line. The bio concluded with the line, “Swipe right if you’re ready to share some laughs, recipes, and dance moves. Who knows, we might find that perfect blend of al dente and amore!”

After updating his bio, Am received a message from a match who jokingly referred to his Italian heritage. Men who participated in the survey also used AI to create conversation starters, resulting in higher response rates from their matches. This led to more interesting conversations and saved time on small talk.

Damiata emphasized that users who communicated with respect, honesty, and positivity had a positive impact not only on their own experiences but also on the recipients of AI-generated messages, especially women.

These findings coincide with the growing trend of using AI in personal lives, such as designing workout plans and skincare routines. Dating apps also recognize the potential of AI in enhancing users’ romantic pursuits. For instance, OkCupid used ChatGPT to generate matching questions that were later added to their platform. Tinder’s CEO, Bernard Kim, expressed interest in incorporating AI features into the app to help users come up with great date ideas and sustain conversations, aiming to reduce ghosting.

While some online daters find AI-generated messages to be creepy and impersonal, Damiata believes that AI has the potential to revolutionize the dating world by promoting healthier communication and fostering more meaningful connections.
