Mahindra Scorpio reaches production milestone of 900,000 units


The Scorpio is presently sold in two avatars — Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic.

By India Today Auto DeskMahindra & Mahindra today announced that the Mahindra Scorpio has reached the production milestone of 900,000 units. The popular sport utility vehicle (SUV) was launched in India more than two decades back in 2002.

At present, the Scorpio is sold in two avatars — Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic. While the Scorpio-N is priced between Rs 13.05 lakh and Rs 24.51 lakh (ex-showroom), the Scorpio Classic is available in the price range of Rs 13 lakh to Rs 16.81 lakh (ex-showroom). Launched in June 2022, the Scorpio-N secured 100,000 bookings in less than 30 minutes.

The Mahindra Scorpio-N gets a 2.0-litre mStallion TGDi petrol engine and a 2.2-litre mHawk CRDi diesel engine. The petrol engine develops 203PS and 370Nm with a 6-speed MT, and 203PS and 380Nm with a 6-speed AT. The diesel engine churns out 175PS and 370Nm with a 6-speed MT, and 175PS and 400Nm with a 6-speed AT. There is also a less powerful avatar of the diesel unit, which makes 132PS and 300Nm. The Scorpio-N diesel has a 4WD option as well.

The Mahindra Scorpio Classic employs a 2.2-litre mHawk CRDi diesel engine that produces 132PS and 300Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed MT. There is no 4WD on offer.

Apart from the Scorpio-N and the Scorpio Classic, Mahindra sells SUVs like the XUV700, Thar, XUV300, Bolero Neo and Bolero. Mahindra is the country’s largest SUV manufacturer in terms of revenue market share.
