JioCinema launches paid plans with HBO content in India, here is how you can subscribe

JioCinema has launched paid plans in India and you can now stream HBO originals as well as WB shows on the platform. Here is how you can subscribe to JioCinema’s premium plans.

Even though IPL 2023 streaming is free of cost on the platform, users can get access to HBO and WB exclusive shows by subscribing to JioCinema’s paid plans. HBO content was earlier available on Disney+Hotstar, but shows like The Last of Us, House of Dragons, Succession, and more were removed from the OTT platform on March 31.

Since then, there was a lot of anticipation amongst viewers about how will they now be able to stream their favourite HBO shows. The answer is in front of them now- by subscribing to JioCinema. Users can download the JioCinema app on iOS and Android to access their favourite shows anytime and anywhere. In addition to this, the platform will also add more shows and films to its Premium content library in the future.

How to subscribe to JioCinema paid plan

You can subscribe to JioCinema’s new paid plans by following a couple of simple steps.

  • Head over to JioCinema’s official website (Jiocinema.com).
  • Look to the top left and locate the ‘Subscribe’ button written in gold.
  • Click on this option and click on ‘Continute and pay Rs 999’.
  • Note that you must login with your JioCinema account to complete the payment and voila, you’ll be a JioCinema subscriber.

Once you complete the aforementioned steps, HBO originals and other content will be unlocked for viewing. You can login with the same JioCinema account in up to four devices and the company promises superior quality content.

Even though the Rs 999 plan is the only offering at present, it is expected that in future, the company will be coming up with more afforable options.

Jyoti Deshpande on the pricing of new plans

Earlier, Jyoti Deshpande, the media and content business President at Jio, said in an interview with Bloomberg that the pricing of the JioCinema’s paid plans will be decided in a way that the platform remains accessible to all. She further stated that Jio wants to bridge the gap between Indian and western content and become a catalyst for cross-pollination of talent. Hence, it is quite possible that Jio offers more cost-effective plans in the future that will not burn a hole in your pocket.

Meanwhile, in the first quarter of 2023, JioCinema added over 10 million subscribers, while Disney Hotstar lost over 8 million subscribers, as per the company’s earnings report.
