By India Today Sports DeskKolkata Knight Riders clinched a much-needed win vs Royal Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday, 26 April defeating the Virat Kohli side by 21 runs. Kolkata posted a total of 200 runs in the first innings and then successfully defended the total, courtesy of their spin bowling attack. At the heart of the performance was Varun Chakravarthy’s three-wicket spell where he ran through the middle order of the side, dismissing Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror and Dinesh Karthik.

Speaking after the game, Chakravarthy smiled while accepting the player of the match award and said that the life of a bowler was funny in the Indian Premier League. The mystery spinner said that last game he went for 49 runs and today he picked 3 wickets. The spinner said that he did not add any variations to his bowling this season, but worked on his accuracy instead.

“That’s how the game of cricket is. Last match I went for 49 and today I got 3 wickets. That is life. More focused on my accuracy rather than variations. I don’t want to add more variations but I want to be accurate.I want to like to credit AC Pratibhan and Abhishek Nayar as they have worked really hard with me,” Chalravarthy said in the presentation ceremony.

Before leaving the stage, Chakravarthy gave a surprise to the viewers, saying that he wanted to dedicate the win vs RCB to his newborn son, who he had not met yet due to the ongoing Indian Premier League.

“I would like to credit this to my newborn son. I haven’t seen him yet but I want to thank him and my wife. I will go and meet him after the IPL,” Chakravarthy concluded.

The win helped KKR complete the double over RCB this season. Earlier they had defeated RCB by a mega margin of 81 runs at the Eden Gardens in the first leg of the tournament.
