By India Today Sports DeskFormer cricketer Robin Uthappa has claimed that Shubman Gill has the potential to become a player as big as Virat Kohli or Sachin Tendulkar as the Gujarat Titans batter continues his fine form in the IPL.

The past one year has been a great one for Gill in international cricket as he scored hundreds in all three formats of the game and also became the youngest batter to score a double hundred in ODI cricket when he scored 208 against New Zealand in January this year.

The 23-year-old has carried this rich vein of form into IPL 2023 as he has been piling on the runs for GT. With 576 runs to his name, this is already Gill’s best season in the competition and he has already scored a hundred and four fifties in IPL 2023 from 13 matches.

Gill’s maiden hundred came up against SRH, and his talent has been receiving praise from all corners. The latest to doff his hat to the young batter is Uthappa.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, the former KKR batter said that he can definitely see Gill becoming a player as big as Virat Kohli or Sachin Tendulkar. Uthappa feels that the GT star has got the skills to do it and feels the 23-year-old is playing some exceptional cricket

“I definitely see him having the potential of becoming someone as big as Virat Kohli or Sachin Tendulkar. I certainly think he has got the stuff. He is a phenomenal player who is in exceptional form and is playing some exceptional cricket at the moment,” said Uthappa.

Uthappa also brought in Yashasvi Jaiswal into the conversation with Gill. The RR batter has also had a breakout season in the IPL as he has amassed 575 runs at an average of 47.92 and also scored the fastest IPL fifty recently against KKR.

and said that both young stars are going to be the two next big things in Indian cricket.

“I feel and believe personally that Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the two next big things of Indian cricket,” said Uthappa.
