In Short

  • Infosys founder Narayan Murthy says that he isn’t worried about ChatGPT.
  • He says that nothing is superior than the human mind.
  • He also said that people will use ChatGPT differently.

By Divyanshi SharmaIn November 2022, the world was introduced to OpenAI’s ground-breaking invention, ChatGPT. The AI chatbot quickly gained popularity and people started using it to compose poetry, write essays, come up with content ideas, and whatnot. Eventually, OpenAI released GPT-4, a superior version of ChatGPT with enhanced powers and greater capabilities. On one side we have an emerging technology and it is surely exciting. However, at the same time, there are concerns surrounding it as well. One of these concerns is the AI’s potential to replace human beings at their jobs. While some people feel that AI chatbots like ChatGPT will help humans, others are worried that they might cost people their jobs entirely.

Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy clearly belongs to the former category as he is not concerned about ChatGPT at all and says that ‘nothing can beat the human mind’.

Infosys founder Narayana Murthy on ChatGPT

In an interview with CNBC, Narayana Murthy said that ‘Nothing can beat the human mind’, while referring to AI chatbots like ChatGPT.

“I am a great believer in the theory that the human mind is the most powerful imagination, machine. There is nothing that can beat the human mind,” he said as per the publication.

The Infosys founder further elaborated on his statement and said that it is the human mind that differentiates one from another. Hence, even though we all have access to the same ChatGPT, we will be using it differently.

“If there is a competition between you and me, you will use the ChatGPT output as your base, and then you will add your own differentiation, your own smartness, your own tweaking,” said Murthy and added, “And that’s when the teachers will be much more impressed with you than with me. The lazy guys will get C. Only smart people will get A. Therefore, I am not so much worried about ChatGPT.”

On AI replacing human jobs

Earlier, at the 67th Foundation Day of All India Management Association (AIMA) held in February, NR Narayana Murthy said that AI won’t replace human beings at their jobs as they won’t allow AI to do so.

A Business Today report quoted Murthy as saying, “I think there is a mistaken belief that artificial intelligence will replace human beings, human beings will not allow artificial intelligence to replace them.”

Back in February too, Narayana Murthy was seen giving a similar statement when it comes to the human mind and had said that the human mind is always one step ahead and can master any technology.

“Mind is the most flexible instrument that ever exists in the world, in this planet. It also has higher and higher aspiration. So doesn’t matter what technology you will invent. The human being, the human mind is always a step ahead and becomes the master of that technology,” he had said back then.
