Australia took a big foot forward, bundling out India for the second time in the Test match. Australia were set a target of 76 runs, courtesy, Lyon’s 10-wicket-haul in the game. The spinner spoke about the feeling and said that the break after the Delhi Test match helped Australia’s campaign in the ongoing series.

“No, it’s up there, there’s no point lying about it. I’m just really proud the way we’ve gone about it, to be honest with you. Yes, personal success is great to have but I think after Delhi (Second Test defeat), we had a couple of really good days off as a team and some really good conversations at training and stuff. So more really proud of the way we’ve gone about it as a collective group to be honest. Yeah, but certainly it’s up there as one of my career highlights, there’s no doubt about that. But I’m more proud of our group to be honest,” Lyon said after the Test match.

The spinner had started this series with just 1 wicket from the first Test match but upped the ante. After picking up 7 wickets in the Delhi Test, Lyon hit India like a tank, picking up 11 wickets across two innings in Indore. The spinner spoke about his early learnings and said that the knowledge that he has to bowl in tandem with the rest of the unit transformed his career.

“I think at the start of my career, I felt probably the weight of trying to win games of cricket in the last couple of innings but it was actually my dad who actually sat me down and said ‘look, there’s three to four other bowlers that you’re able to bowl in partnerships’. And if you do your role, some days you’re going to have success and some days your mates are going to have success,” Lyon recalled his father’s advice.

The spinner, who has trusted his stock ball in Delhi and Indore said that he kept things simple, something that he had leant from his father as well.

“And that’s more important that you’re able to identify that and if it’s your time, grab it and run with both hands. But yeah, it was my dad who really simplified it for me, I guess and making sure I wasn’t over-complicating things and putting too much pressure on myself,” Lyon explained.

Australia will need one win to get into the final of the World Test Championship.
