By India Today Sports DeskStefanos Tsitsipas was knocked out by Nicolas Jarry in the second round of the Halle Open on Wednesday, while top seed Daniil Medvedev reached the quarterfinals. Tsitsipas, the defending champion, lost 7-6 (9-7), 7-5 to Jarry, who is ranked 28th in the world.

It is the third consecutive time that Tsitsipas has been eliminated in the second round of the Halle tournament. Medvedev, meanwhile, defeated Ilya Ivashka 6-3, 6-4. The Russian said that grass court specialists are “aliens” to him, but he has looked comfortable on the surface so far this week.

Alexander Zverev defeated Denis Shapovalov 6-2, 6-4, Karen Khachanov beat Pablo Carreno Busta 6-4, 6-4, and Felix Auger-Aliassime defeated Marin Cilic 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). The tournament is shaping up to be an exciting one, with a number of top players in contention for the title.

The Halle Open is an ATP 500 tournament, which means that it is one of the most prestigious tournaments on the grass court circuit. Tsitsipas is one of the favorites to win Wimbledon this year, so his loss in Halle came as a surprise.

“Moving forward, it’s not going to get easier. Nicolas Jarry is somebody that has an extremely big game, extremely suitable for grass courts, but I’m looking forward to the match.”
