Google has launched a price guarantee program for Google Flights in the US. The feature, which is currently a “pilot program,” will pay customers the difference if the price of a flight drops after it has been booked through the service. Google Flights will monitor the price of the flight every day until departure, and if the price drops, the customer will receive the difference. The price guarantee program is currently only available for flights departing from the US, and customers must have a US billing address and phone number. Additionally, Google states that the program is only available for flights for which the company is confident that the price will not drop.

Flights with a little shield icon with a dollar sign will be eligible for the program. Customers who book these flights through Google Flights can receive up to $500 back per calendar year if the price drops. Customers will not receive money back if the price difference is less than $5. Google Pay will be used to refund customers, and they must set up Google Pay within 90 days of receiving notification that it is available. Customers must book their tickets through Google Flights to be eligible for the program.

The price guarantee program is not unique among travel sites. Some individual airlines and sites like Priceline and Orbitz promise partial refunds under certain circumstances, but usually require customers to search for a better price themselves. Google’s program continuously monitors the price for customers.

Google also launched a new feature for exploring hotels through a “swipeable story format.” The feature shows a slideshow of hotels in an area that customers can swipe up on to see another hotel. This feature is similar to the “stories” format used by social media platforms like Instagram and Snapchat.
