Exter to enhance Hyundai's position as full range SUV manufacturer, says Unsoo Kim


With its price expected to be between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 9.50 lakh (ex-showroom), the Exter will be Hyundai’s most affordable SUV and sit below the Venue.

Hyundai Exter’s production has commenced.

By India Today Auto DeskWith Hyundai Motor India gearing up to launch the Exter next month, the company’s Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Unsoo Kim said that the micro SUV will enhance the carmaker’s position as a full-range SUV manufacturer.

The Hyundai Exter will be launched in India on July 10. It will add more strength to the carmaker’s SUV line-up, which also includes the Venue, Creta, Alcazar and Tucson.

With its price expected to be between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 9.50 lakh (ex-showroom), the Exter will be Hyundai’s most affordable SUV and sit below the Venue.

The Hyundai Exter has just one direct rival, the Tata Punch, which is among the largest-selling SUVs in India.

The production of the Exter has commenced at Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur facility, near Chennai, with the maiden unit in the signature ‘Ranger-Khaki’ colour rolling out today from the line.

The Hyundai Exter is loaded to the gills with features. It boasts a signature parametric grille, projector headlamps, H-signature LED DRLs, H-signature LED taillamps, front and rear skid plates, and diamond-cut alloy wheels.

The cabin offers features like an 8-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, digital instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch coloured TFT MID, automatic climate control, semi-leatherette upholstery, seatbelt reminder for all seats, dashcam with front and rear cameras and a 2.31-inch LCD, cruise control and a sunroof.

With the Hyundai Bluelink technology, the Exter has over 60 connected car features. Also available are more than 90 embedded voice commands, including Hinglish voice commands like ‘Sunroof Kholo’ and ‘Temperature Kam Kardo’.

At the heart of the Exter is a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine (83PS/113.8Nm). The transmission options include 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT. The vehicle also has a CNG option.
