By Varun SinghMaruti Suzuki India has not yet decided the unveil timeline of its maiden electric vehicle (EV), the eVX electric SUV, according to a senior company official. However, it will be launched in the country during the next fiscal.

Certain reports had claimed that the Maruti Suzuki eVX will be unveiled by the end of the calendar year (CY) 2023.

Dismissing the reports as ‘rumours’, Maruti’s Senior Executive Officer for Marketing and Sales, Shashank Srivastava, said”We have announced earlier that the first EV that Maruti will introduce in India will be in the next financial year (FY), which is 2024-25. It will be the eVX, in the mid-SUV range.”

On being asked when will Maruti unveil the eVX electric SUV, Srivastava replied”We have not decided on that date yet.”

Maruti showcased the eVX in a concept form at the Auto Expo 2023. The eVX is the first global strategic electric model of Maruti’s parent, Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC).

However, the test mules of the Maruti Suzuki eVX have been spied now. The electric SUV is based on a new dedicated EV platform.

Maruti has claimed that the eVX will measure 4,300mm in length, 1,800mm in width and 1,600mm in height. It will have a range of up to 550km on a single full charge and employ a 60kWh battery pack.

The country’s largest carmaker will have as many as six electric models in its portfolio by FY30, according to the ‘Growth Strategy for FY30’ announced by SMC earlier this year in January.

By FY30, EVs will have a share of 15% in Maruti’s portfolio. While hybrids will contribute 25%, internal combustion engine (ICE) models will still enjoy a bulk share at 60%.
