Even before Threads launch, Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey have started attacking Zuckerberg’s Twitter rival

Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and Elon Musk have started attacking Threads, Mark Zuckerberg’s alternative to the micro-blogging site. Threads is likely to launch on July 6.

In Short

  • Instagram’s Twitter rival Threads is likely to be launched on July 6.
  • Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey are already mocking the app.
  • Dorsey shared news of the app’s listing on Twitter.

By Divyanshi SharmaElon Musk’s Twitter has seen some major changes in the last few days. The microblogging site recently imposed restrictions on the number of tweets that users can see in a single day. Not only this, but Twitter users will also have to be verified in order to get access to the tweetdeck in the future. All of these sudden changes have left many Twitter users disappointed, and the micro-blogging site is facing backlash from netizens. While some are saying that the ‘end is near’ for Twitter, others are wondering why would Musk restrict users’ access to the social media site.

Amidst all this, Meta unveiled its Twitter rival, Threads. The micro-blogging site is expected to launch on July 6 and is listed on App Store. Even before its launch, Elon Musk and former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey have started mocking the app.

Jack Dorsey, Elon Musk mock Threads

Twitter’s former CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey reacted to the news of Threads listing on Twitter and took a subtle jibe at Meta over user’s data collection. Sharing a screenshot of all the data that Threads will be collecting from users, Dorsey wrote, “All your threads belong to us.” Elon Musk, in agreement, commented on Dorsey’s tweet and wrote, ‘Yeah’.

Meta has often made headlines for data collection concerns in the past and it looks like Dorsey and Musk are mocking the company’s upcoming app already.

Dorsey’s Twitter alternative

Meanwhile, Dorsey has invested in Bluesky, yet another Twitter competitor that seems quite similar to Elon Musk’s microblogging site. Over the weekend, reports of Twitter users flocking to Bluesky surfaced after Musk’s newly introduced changes at Twitter.

Bluesky, on the other hand, got overwhelmed with so many registrations at once and temporarily halted sign-ups.

The idea of Bluesky was born back in 2019, when Jack Dorsey was the CEO of Twitter. He chose Jay Graber to lead the new platform and an entire team was built. The company was formed in 2021. In 2022, Bluesky became a public benefit company and severed all its ties from Twitter.

About Threads

The app has reportedly been under development since January this year and was earlier codenamed Project 92. Threads had also sparked rumours of a cage match between Musk and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

A Meta executive had reportedly said during a meeting that they have ‘been hearing from creators and public figures who are interested in having a platform that is sanely run, that they believe that they can trust and rely upon for distribution’.

Reacting to this report, Elon Musk had said on Twitter that he is up for a ‘cage match’ with Mark Zuckerberg. The latter had then asked Musk to ‘send location’. What followed was a banter between the two tech experts.

Coming back to Threads, as per the App Store listing, the app will be available from July 6. However, we wouldn’t get too excited as Meta might roll out Threads slowly instead of letting all users access it instantly.

The description of the app reads, “Threads is where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what’ll be trending tomorrow. Whatever it is you’re interested in, you can follow and connect directly with your favourite creators and others who love the same things — or build a loyal following of your own to share your ideas, opinions and creativity with the world.”

Threads will let users sign in with their Instagram account and they will also be able to follow the accounts that they are already following on the photo and video sharing app. Moreover, users can also keep the same username on the app as they have on Instagram. Hence, signing up for Threads would be hassle-free if you already have an Instagram account.
