  • Elon Musk’s Twitter acquisition had an impact on his reputation.
  • He locked himself in his office once.
  • Employees thought of calling the police.

Elon Musk’s Twitter (now called X) acquisition made a lot of headlines last year. The much-publicised deal was all that the tech world could talk about and shortly after Musk took charge of the micro-blogging website, he made various changes to the company. One of the changes that he made involved firing the company’s then CEO Parag Agrawal along with other senior level employees.

Then, there were reports of Musk cutting down costs by stopping free meals and other perks for employees, asking people to work beyond office hours, and so on. All these reports got people talking about Musk’s leadership style and he was also heavily criticised for the same. And as per author Ben Mezrich, this had a profound impact on the tech mogul. So much so, that he had once locked himself up in his office and worried employees thought of calling the police.

When Elon Musk locked himself in his office

A Business Insider report originally attributed to CNBC revealed that author Ben Mezrich, who wrote the book Breaking Twitter, revealed how Musk’s Twitter acquisition had an impact on his reputation. And Musk was quite upset with it.

The author said that the Twitter owner got to a point where he locked himself up in his office and his employees were left worried. They (Twitter employees) even thought of calling San Francisco police to conduct a “wellness check” on Musk as they thought that he might harm himself.

“I think he truly cares about his reputation, and he was shocked,” said the author. He added that Elon Musk is a completely different person after X acquisition and that he “didn’t just break Twitter but Twitter broke him.”

X will get its first AI-powered feature soon

On Sunday, Elon Musk’s xAI announced its upcoming AI assistant that will answer questions with “wit and also has a rebellious streak”. The team, therefore, said that “those who lack a sense of humour shouldn’t use the AI service”.

Grok will be available for use as soon as it is out of Beta stage. However, a clear timeline hasn’t been revealed by Musk or his company. Musk also announced that Grok AI will be made available only for X Premium subscribers. Hence, the chatbot won’t be free for use like other AI bots.

Announcing the AI model, xAI’s post read, “Grok is an AI modeled after the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, so intended to answer almost anything and, far harder, even suggest what questions to ask. Grok is designed to answer questions with a bit of wit and has a rebellious streak, so please don’t use it if you hate humor.”

In a separate post, Musk announced that X is hiring AI experts for working on Grok AI.
