The Lord’s Test was supposed to be a great moment in Lyon’s career as he was playing in his 100th consecutive Test match for Australia. However, things took a turn for the worse for the off-spinner on Thursday.

Lyon picked up the injury while running in to take a catch in the final session of the day. Lyon came in from the deep fine-leg region to take the catch after Duckett hit a delivery from Green in the air. The ball would end up falling short of the off-spinner and he was immediately in pain while clutching on to his calf region.

It was later revealed that Lyon had suffered an injury to his right calf and would be further assessed after day 2. Lyon had picked the wicket of Zak Crawley on day 2 and had bowled 13 overs and conceded just 35 runs.

Smith has now provided a worrying update on the off-spinner after stumps on Thursday.

The Australian star said that Lyon’s injury didn’t look good and went on to claim the off-spinner would be a big loss to the visitors if he cannot take part in the rest of the Lord’s Test. Smith said that the team is keeping their fingers crossed about the situation.

“I haven’t been up in the sheds yet, but obviously it didn’t look good. It doesn’t look ideal for the rest of the game,” Steve Smith told reporters at stumps.

“I’m not sure how he actually is. But obviously if he’s no good, it’s a big loss for us.”

“He’s in his 100th consecutive Test match, which I know he was really looking forward to taking part in and having a role in as well. Fingers crossed he’s OK, but it didn’t look good.”
