Financing Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday revealed the allotment of Rs 6,21,940 crore to the Defence Ministry in the Union Budget 2024-25, a 4.79 percent boost from the previous fiscal year. The budget plan allotment to the Defence Ministry is the greatest amongst all ministries.

The Budget will assist in moving towards a flourishing and self-reliant ‘ Viksit Bharat , Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated on Tuesday.

The spending plan intends to promote ‘Aatmanirbharta’ (self-reliance) in defence innovation and production, gear up the militaries with contemporary weapons, and produce task chances for the youth.

The capital expense for the defence forces is set at Rs 1.72 lakh crore. The general allowance to the defence sector is almost 13 percent of the overall budget plan.

To improve the start-up community in the defence sector, Rs 518 crore has actually been designated to the Acing Development of Innovative Technologies with iDEX (ADITI) plan, which will support innovation services from start-ups and MSMEs.

STRENGTHNING DOMESTIC CAPACITY

75 percent of the modernisation budget plan, totaling up to Rs 1,05,518 crore, is allocated for procurement through domestic markets this fiscal year.

BORDER INFRASTRIUCTURE FOR STRATEGIC REQUIREMENT

To enhance border facilities, the monetary allowance to Border Roads Organisation (BRO) under capital for Budget Estimates (BE) 2024-25 is Rs 6,500 crore. This intends to boost tactical facilities advancement and increase socio-economic development in border locations.

INDIAN COAST GUARD ALLOCATION

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) gets Rs 7,651.80 crore for FY 2024-25, with Rs 3,500 crore committed to capital investment. This will boost the ICG’s abilities to attend to emerging maritime obstacles and offer humanitarian help to other countries.
