Creta continues to rule mid-SUV segment; Kushaq, Taigun, Astor worst performers in May

While the Kushaq and the Taigun could not reach volumes of even 2,000 units in May, the Astor failed to touch 1,000 units.

The Creta was the largest-selling mid-size SUV in May.

By India Today Auto DeskThe Hyundai Creta’s dominance in the mid-size SUV segment continued with the vehicle garnering impressive volumes in May. While the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara clocked handsome sales during the month, the Kia Seltos saw a dip with the buyers now waiting for the arrival of the facelift.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has not been able to replicate the success of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara so far as volumes are concerned. The poor show by the Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and MG Astor continued in May as well.

The Creta once again put on a splendid show as it notched up domestic volumes of 14,449 units in May. The Grand Vitara registered sales of 8,877 units during the month.

The Seltos has seen its sales take a hit in the past few months as the new model is about to enter the market. In May, as many as 4,065 units of the Seltos were sold. Kia will unveil the new Seltos facelift on July 4.

Although the Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser Hyryder are the same vehicles, the Toyota model has not been able to match the popularity of the Maruti model and it clearly shows in the volumes. Toyota sold 3,090 units of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder in May.

The takers for the Kushaq and the Taigun were relatively fewer in May at 1,685 units and 1,484 units, respectively. MG sold only 592 units of the Astor last month.
