By India Today Sports DeskGrace Harris’ blinder of an innings helped UP Warriorz clinch an unlikely victory in the Women’s Premier League on Sunday, 5 March. Harris’ innings, where she made 59* off 26 balls was one of the cleanest hitting spree seen in women’s cricket in the recent times and it handed UP a win by 3 wickets and one ball remaining against Gujarat Giants.

Harris came out to bat when UP were struggling to put bat to ball at the halfway mark when Kim Garth ran through their batting line-up. At 86/4 there was a lot to do for UP in the game, to close in the gap for the counter-attack to arrive.

I started poorly and I thought I was fluffing around. You need to get the conditions of the wicket and I was thankful that Sophie also motored along. Great feeling to finish over the line. I knew what I wanted to do,” Harris said after the match.

Harris began her hitting in the 16th over of the match, with UP needing 70 off the final 5. The match had everything in the final few overs. Head-high no balls, excellent fielding efforts, poor fielding efforts, huge hits and of course DRS drama.

“I was getting antsy when there were so many breaks in the DRS. I was able to compose myself, but I was psyched to get the batting and score. I love batting with freedom. The coach is supportive and tells me to be free,” Harris spoke about the nervy final moments of the match.

On the other side of the crease was Sophie Ecclestone, who faced just 12 balls but came out with 22 runs in the game, hitting one four and a six.

“She (Ecclestone) is a clean striker, and that is a part of how well I played at the end. When Sophie got a couple away, I just ran hard. It was good,” Harris smiled while speaking about the incredible overhaul in the final 5 overs.

Asked about the secret to such incredible power, Harris had a cheeky reply.

“There was a little bit of confusion towards the end, when the ump walked over to say the DRS has gone down. It was a good bit of fun. Don’t know where I’ll find some burgers in India. Maybe some butter chicken,” Harris concluded.
