New BMW X1 sDrive18i M Sport

By Anagh BhaskarBMW India has added a third variant to its entry-level SUV, the BMW X1. The new BMW X1 sDrive18i M Sport joins the sDrive18i xLine and the X1 sDrive18d M Sport variant currently on sale in India. The new variant is priced at Rs 48.90 lakh (ex-showroom).

Commenting on the launch of the new X1 variant, Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India, said, “The all-new BMW X1 has really caught the imagination of customers who were waiting for a luxury SAV that’s an all-rounder in the true sense. In overwhelming demand since its launch three months ago, X1 has upheld its dominating position within the segment thanks to its commanding presence, highly efficient and dynamic performance and class-leading tech features. Our ‘M Sport’ style variant always receives special attention due to its dynamic M design and luxurious interiors inspired by high-performance motorsport genes. Looking at the high customer interest, we are glad to introduce the M Sport variant in petrol as well – BMW X1 sDrive18i M Sport. With this, we add more thrill to the range and a new dimension of joy.”

While the car is essentially the same as the BMW X1 sDrive18i xLine, both using the same engine, this variant differs mainly in the equipment and the different look of the bumpers and other cosmetic elements. The M-Sport package adds an M-specific body kit which includes the front and rear bumpers, black inserts on the kidney grille and M-Sport 18-inch alloys. The roof rails and the window surrounds are finished in black.

This means that customers now have the option to choose either this sportier M Sport look, or the more subtle xLine with the petrol engine. The diesel sDrive18d however, is solely offered with the M Sport trim.

In terms of features, the BMW X1 sDrive18i M Sport gets all the tech and equipment as the xLine which sits below the former and then some. There is an M Leather steering, stainless steel pedals, Anthracite roof lining and Aluminium Mesheffect trim. Features include the Active Seats for the front passengers, which comes with multiple massage programs, and allowing the rear passenger to adjust the front seats for added legroom by 130mm, welcome staging light, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control.

Powering the BMW X1 sDrive18i M Sport is the same 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine which produced 135bhp and 230Nm of torque. This power is routed to the wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The car can sprint from 0 to 100kmph in just 9.2 seconds.
