By India Today Auto DeskRobust demand and an improvement in semiconductor supply resulted in handsome passenger vehicle (PV) wholesales in May at 334,802 units with the sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment accounting for 47% of the domestic volumes during the month.
While the top-selling SUV in May was Hyundai Motor India’s Creta, Maruti Suzuki India had three models — Brezza, Fronx and Grand Vitara — among the 10 best-selling SUVs during the month.
Hyundai (Creta and Venue), Tata Motors (Nexon and Punch) and Mahindra (Scorpio and Bolero) had two each. Kia India was represented by the Sonet.
The Hyundai Creta was at the numero uno position so far as SUV segment’s best-sellers in May are concerned, at 14,449 units. It was closely followed by the Tata Nexon at 14,423 units and Maruti Suzuki Brezza at 13,398 units.
The Tata Punch again returned with impressive wholesales at 11,124 units, keeping ahead of the Hyundai Venue, which clocked sales of 10,213 units in May. The recently-launched Maruti Suzuki Fronx posted sales of 9,863 units.
The popular Mahindra Scorpio (N and Classic) recorded sales of 9,318 units in May. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara carried on its decent run, notching up sales of 8,877 units, and was followed by the Kia Sonet at 8,251 units.
Mahindra’s ever-so-reliable Bolero was the 10th largest-selling SUV in India in May at 8,170 units.
