Meg Lanning’s Australia are gearing up to face India in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 semi-final. Ahead of the blockbuster clash, Lanning was asked a question that left her perplexed.

In the pre-match press conference, a scribe asked Lanning whether her side was aiming to take revenge on India after her male counterparts failed in the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India. Lanning maintained her calmness and said that she is hopeful the Pat Cummins-led team will play “good cricket and get some good results” in the remaining two Tests.

“Oh, look, we haven’t spoken about that at all. The men’s team are obviously doing their best, trying to prepare and play as well as they can. And we’re fully supportive of them. And hopefully in those last two test matches over there, they can play some good cricket and get some good results,” said Lanning on the eve of the semi-final against India.

India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after defeating the visiting Australian side by six wickets in the second Test in Delhi. India, who are 2-0 up in the four-test series, will take on Australia in the third Test in Indore from March 1.

Meanwhile, Lanning’s Australia will meet Harmanpreet Kaur-led India in the semi-final of the Women’s T20 World Cup on February 23. Australia are bidding for a hat-trick of titles and a record sixth T20 World Cup trophy, while India are still hunting for their maiden women’s ICC trophy.

Australia captain Lanning said that her side was looking for a blockbuster game like the semi-final against India as the latter have some match-winners and world-class players.

“We obviously both know each other very well. They’re an incredible side. They’ve got some match winners and world-class players and it’s going to be a cracking game. And we can’t wait. Obviously, we came here to be part of a game like this and we’re expecting to have to play at our best to win. And that’s something that I know this group is up for and we’re certainly very much looking forward to it,” said Lanning.
