In January this year, Jassy announced to cut 18000 jobs as a part of cost-cutting measure. Following that, in March, the Amazon CEO announced cutting 9000 jobs across departments. Announcing the layoffs, CEO Jassy said in an email to staff that due the reason behind the situation is “uncertain economy”.

The CEO also announced to offer severance package to each and every laid off employee. He highlighted that impacted employees will receive “packages” that include a “separation payment, transitional health insurance benefits, and external job placement support.” However, it should be noted that the severance package depends on the local labour laws and employees’ positions. Additionally, the company also said that it would offer a separation payment, health benefits as applicable by country, and job placement. Big Tech companies like Google, Microsoft, Meta, Twitter, and more have all announced layoffs. Most of these companies have stated tough macroeconomic conditions as the reason behind thousands of job cuts. Twitter boss Elon Musk has fired more than 50 per cent of the staff as soon as he officially acquired the company last year. In fact, it is said that Musk has shut down a few offices in India and fired hundreds of employees working out of the country, including the entire communications team. Additionally, many of these companies have also paused hiring and said that hiring will happen only for important roles throughout this year.
