By Abhik SenguptaAdobe is updating its FireFly AI image generator with more language support. The company has announced that the generative AI model now supports support text prompts in over 100 languages, including eight regional languages, including Gujarati, Hindi, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu. As expected, the support enables users to generate images and text effects using their native languages in the standalone Firefly web service. The service will also be localised in 20 languages with versions in French, German, Japanese, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese available now.

Support for more languages can be highly useful. In a press note, Adobe states that users have already generated over one billion assets on the Firefly website and in Photoshop — making these two Adobe’s “most successful beta releases.” Since its launch in March, Firefly has been integrated into Photoshop, Express and Illustrator. Similar to other AI image generators, Firefly can easily fill spots or replace elements in the images with text prompts. Firefly can also generate full-blown images based on the input and the gallery it is trained on.

Speaking over the language support, Ely Greenfield, CTO of Digital Media at Adobe, said, “Today’s announcement is about making Firefly accessible to more people in their preferred languages, so they can continue to leverage our unique model to bring their imagination to life, and create the highest quality assets that are safe for commercial use.”

The latest update comes nearly a month after Adobe expanded Firefly for Enterprise to let companies design “commercially safe” images. The enterprise model enables businesses to custom-train Firefly with their branded assets, generating content in the brand’s unique style and language. Adobe is yet to expand Firefly’s generative AI capabilities of Firefly to its video editing platforms, like Premier Pro, Premier Rush, After Effects, and so on.

Not only Adobe, but Google is also expanding more language support to its generative AI model, Bard. Earlier this week, Bard received support for Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, and Urdu. The AI chatbot can also now understand image inputs. Users can upload a photo and ask Bard to analyse it for easy captions or elements within the image. Additionally, users can request Bard to generate simple recipes if the photo depicts a grocery list or a page from a cookbook. The Google Bard is also getting more features, including “modify replies” and pin conversations.
