Saka scored a 90th-minute goal at the Emirates stadium on Friday to keep the title hopes still alive as Arsenal are chasing their first league title since 2004.

The Gunners had a horrendous start with goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale’s casual pass going straight to Carlos Alcaraz, who completed the goal in style in the very first minute. Arsenal were soon 0-2 down inside 15 minutes as Theo Walcott doubling the lead for Southampton. Alcaraz gave a perfect pass to Walcott who struck the ball into the corner.

Arsenal goalkeeper Ramsdale did redeem himself as he managed to keep out Adam Armstrong’s header and Mohamed Elyounoussi’s follow-up volley.

Arsenal gathered and regained their composure in the 20th minute when Gabriel Martinelli pulled one back. Martinelli received a pass from Saka and struck it past the Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu. But Southampton regained their two-goal lead as substitute Duje Caleta-Car headed one in the 66th minute.

Just when it appeared that Southampton will pocket a sensational victory over Arsenal and a first win in seven league games, the home captain Martin Odegaard curled a shot past Bazunu to give a lifeline to the hosts in the 88th minute. In the dying minutes, Saka got the equaliser for Arsenal much to the relief of their fans, who were at one point heading for exit.

In the stoppage time, however, there was no twist in the result as Leandro Trossard hit the woodwork, Reiss Nelson’s shot deflected wide of the post and Gabriel Jesus was denied a spot kick after tumbling in the penalty area.
