“Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru,” the advisory said.

“Mr. Kohli admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct,” it further added.

The fine possibly came because of Kohli’s exuberant celebration of CSK batter Shivam Dube’s wicket. The Chennai batter was caught by Mohammed Siraj in the deep during a crucial juncture of the game. Dube, who was batting at 52 off 26 balls was threatening to take the game away from Bengalore, before Wayne Parnell trapped him at in the deep.

Kohli was shown by the broadcasters celebrating the wicket with some heat, something that obliges for the Level 1 offence. A similar fine was given to Mumbai Indians’ Hrithik Shokeen in the last IPL match against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Kohli did not have a good game personally against CSK, despite starting well. After hitting a boundary against Akash Singh, Kohli got unlucky, when the ball hit him off the bat and ricocheted into the stumps, forcing him to walk back to the dugout in the very first over of a 227-run chase. After the result, RCB are now placed at the 7th position in the league table, while CSK have climbed to the third spot.
