Capri Global Holdings Private Limited announced on Wednesday that Alyssa Healy will lead the UP Warriorz in the inaugural Women’s Premier League.

UP Warriorz on Wednesday appointed experienced Australian opener Alyssa Healy as their captain for the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). Notably, UP Warriorz signed Heal for Rs 70 lakh at the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction in Mumbai. Healy is one of the most lethal openers in the world.

The UP Warriorz, one of five teams in the 2023 WPL, assembled a dynamic and well-balanced squad at the WPL Player Auctions in Mumbai on 13 February, including six overseas players, including Australia’s Healy.

Healy, one of the sport’s most recognisable faces, is a highly experienced and seasoned campaigner, having appeared in 139 T20Is for Australia, scoring nearly 2,500 runs with one century and 14 fifties. She is also regarded as one of the best wicket-keeper batters in the game, having made 110 dismissals in T20Is.

“I am delighted to have the chance to captain the UP Warriorz in the inaugural edition of the historic WPL that will be played in Mumbai. The WPL is a tournament we have all been keenly waiting on, and the UP Warriorz have a fantastic squad, waiting to making a splash once things get going. We have a good mix of experience and youth along with the ability and look forward to putting on a show for our fans. We are here to win and be ruthless in our brand of cricket,” captain Alyssa Healy said.

The Women’s Premier League will be held in Mumbai from March 4th to March 26th, 2023. The marquee tournament will feature 22 matches, with the Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium serving as hosts. The UP Warriorz begin their season on March 5th, when they face the Gujarat Giants in the second game of the day at the DY Patil Stadium.
