By India Today Auto DeskKia India has updated its model line-up, including the Seltos, Sonet and Carens, to meet the upcoming real driving emission (RDE) norms. The company has also rejigged the powertrains of these three models. New features have been added as well. Let us have a look at all the changes in detail.
Kia Seltos 2023, Sonet 2023, Carens 2023Powertrains rejigged
Talking about the Seltos 2023, it has two engine options now — 1.5-litre Smartstream petrol (115PS/144Nm) and 1.5-litre CRDi VGT diesel (116PS/250Nm). The 1.5 petrol can be paired with a 6-speed MT or an IVT automatic, while the 1.5 diesel has 6-speed iMT and 6-speed AT choices. The diesel engine’s power has gone up from 115PS to 116PS. Also, the 1.4-litre Turbo GDi engine has now been discontinued. However, the SUV will soon get the more powerful 1.5-litre Smartstream T-GDi engine.
The Sonet 2023 has three engine options — 1.2-litre Smartstream petrol (83PS/115Nm), 1.0-litre Smartstream T-Gdi petrol (120PS/172Nm) and 1.5-litre CRDi VGT diesel (116PS/250Nm). When it comes to transmission options, the Sonet 1.2 has 5-speed MT, the Sonet 1.0 T-GDi has 6-speed iMT and 6-speed AT, and the Sonet 1.5 diesel has 6-speed iMT and 6-speed AT. The compact SUV earlier had a 100PS 1.5-litre CRDi WGT diesel engine.
The Carens 2023 also has thee engine options — 1.5-litre Smartstream petrol (115PS/144Nm), 1.5-litre Smartstream T-Gdi petrol (160PS/253Nm) and 1.5-litre CRDi VGT diesel (116PS/250Nm). The transmission choices include 6-speed MT with the Carens 1.5 petrol, 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT with the Carens 1.5 T-GDi petrol and 6-speed iMT and 6-speed AT with the Carens 1.5 diesel.
In all these three cars, the manual transmission comes only with the naturally-aspirated petrol engines. The T-GDi petrol and diesel engines do not have manual transmission now. They either get iMT or automatic transmission. Also, petrol engines are now E20 fuel-ready.

Kia has made Idle Stop and Go (ISG) a standard feature across all its cars. The company has also introduced Kia Connect skill for Amazon Alexa – home to car connectivity function in all cars (not standard though).

The Kia Seltos 2023 is priced between Rs 10.89 lakh and Rs 19.65 lakh. While the Kia Sonet 2023 sits in the price range of Rs 7.79 lakh to Rs 14.89 lakh, the Kia Carens 2023 price is in the bracket of Rs 10.45 lakh to Rs 18.90 lakh. All the prices are ex-showroom.
