In Short

  • Avril Lavigne introduced AP Dhillon at the Juno Awards 2023 on March 14.
  • Her announcement was disrupted by a protestor on stage.
  • Later, AP Dhillon performed Summer High at the ceremony.

By Daphne ClaranceSinger Avril Lavigne made headlines for two reasons. The Complicated hitmaker took to the stage at Juno Awards 2023 (March 14) to announce Punjabi singer AP Dhillon’s performance, but while she was doing so, she was interrupted.

A protestor stormed the stage during Avril’s announcement, wearing nothing but a pair of pink pants, in addition to black marker scribbled on her skin that read “Save the Greenbelt”. The message is in reference to the area in Ontario, Canada, that has been the target of several industrial development projects.

The singer had an audacious comeback and said, “Get the f*** off, bitch.” Soon, security appeared to get the disruptor off the stage.

Avril continued with the announcement and without addressing the disturbance she said, “The first ever Punjabi act to perform at the Junos, global phenom – AP Dhillon.”

It was only later that night that Avril addressed the situation. In her acceptance speech after winning the TikTok Juno Fan Choice Award, Avril said, “Now, nobody try anything this time. Or the Canadian will come out of me, and I’ll fuck a bitch up.”

Later, Avril tweeted her fans and thanked them for the win.

“Thanks to my amazing fans for voting for the TikTok Juno Fan Choice Award. This is my 10th Juno Award and 4th Fan Choice Award. Let’s keep rocking and cheers to the next 20 years,” she wrote, adding, “P.S. – ‘Get the f*** off bitch!'”

Meanwhile, desi fans were excited to see AP Dhillon step on stage and perform Summer High. He made history as the first Punjabi singer to perform at the Juno Awards, which took place in Alberta, Canada.
