So then, Sri Lanka had to do it all over again with the bat in hand. Oshada Fernando and Dimuth Karunaratne came out at the crease. They had to face a stern test against the combination of Matt Henry and Tim Southee with the new cherry. Plenty of questions were asked but the batters have managed to soak the early pressure really well. Sri Lanka go back into Tea break without losing any wickets but they still trail by 9 runs. Phew! An entertaining session comes to an end. It started with some unorthodox batting filled with clean hitting. That’s how the New Zealand tail-enders batted. At the start of the day, New Zealand were miles behind but within two sessions they managed to get a lead of 18 runs. All of this could not have happened without Daryl Mitchell though. He was the stalwart of this innings. He kept his head in the game, started the day with leaving aplenty outside the off stump, but made sure to put away the bad balls. Sri Lanka though had a tough outing with the ball in hand. Lahiru Kumara got rid of Mitchell just after he made his ton, but Sri Lanka could not capitalize on this opening. It was as if their hands were tied and had to watch the lead evaporate. The momentum had well and truly left their dressing room.
