Nathan Lyon broke Anil Kumble’s record to become the highest wicket-taker in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy during the second day of the third Test in Indore on Thursday. Lyon’s 112th Test wicket against India came with the dismissal of Umesh Yadav in the 57th over of India’s second innings.

Lyon also became the most successful spinner against India in Test cricket. Lyon went past Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan with the wicket of Shubman Gill to script the record. Lyon is also Australia’s most successful spinner after veteran Shane Warne. Lyon’s expertise has helped Australia win several pivotal games, particularly against India.

India vs Australia, 3rd Test Day 2 Highlights

Lyon spun a web around the Indian side after Australia were bowled out for 197 in the morning session of Day 2. Lyon dismissed the likes of Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma Ravindra Jadeja, KS Bharat, Ravichandran Ashwin, Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav after posting a decent lead of 88 runs. Lyon’s 23rd 5-wicket haul in a Test match, and his 9th against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, trailing only Anil Kumble’s 10.

India were all out for 163 in their second innings on Thursday, leaving Australia needing 76 to win the third test in Indore. Cheteshwar Pujara top-scored for India with a gritty 59, while Nathan Lyon was the pick of the Australia bowlers, claiming 8-64. India are 2-0 ahead in the four-Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
