Maruti Suzuki Brezza MT drops smart hybrid tech, mileage takes a hit

By India Today Auto DeskMaruti Suzuki India has removed the smart hybrid technology from the manual transmission (MT) version of the popular Maruti Suzuki Brezza sub-4 metre compact SUV. However, the automatic transmission (AT) version still gets it.

The Brezza employs the K15C 1.5-litre petrol engine, which develops 103.1PS of maximum power and 136.8Nm of peak torque. There is also a bi-fuel (CNG + petrol) option, which delivers 87.8PS and 121.5Nm in CNG mode, and 100.6PS and 136Nm in petrol mode.

The Brezza petrol can be paired either with a 5-speed MT or a 6-speed AT, while the Brezza CNG only gets a 5-speed MT.

Following the removal of the smart hybrid technology from the Brezza petrol MT, its mileage has fallen from 20.15kmpl to 17.38kmpl. For the Brezza petrol AT, the mileage remains the same at 19.80kmpl.

The Brezza CNG never had smart hybrid technology. It has a claimed mileage of 25.51km/kg.

The price of the Brezza petrol MT starts at Rs 8.29 lakh and goes up to Rs 12.48 lakh (ex-showroom). The Brezza petrol AT is priced between Rs 11.14 lakh and Rs 13.98 lakh (ex-showroom). The Brezza CNG sits in the price range of Rs 9.24 lakh to Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza takes on the likes of the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV300.
